Last week I talked briefly about astrology, and its paradox for me: that it makes no sense to me scientifically, or in its reductiveness. And yet there’s only one ‘star sign’ that describes me perfectly, and that’s the one I actually am.
This of course could just be a form of confirmation bias, the result of picking-and-choosing how I see myself, in the way that’s of course most convenient for me. A relatively harmless problem, perhaps, but still. And I suppose it doesn’t help that the descriptors are so incredibly general and therefore true of many people. Though it’s more the combination of the traits ascribed to signs that convince.
I haven’t been able to find any others in this lovely graphic series, sorry. But what about you? Do you relate to your own sign? Or believe in anything fortune-teller-y?
There’s an interesting read here by someone who used to work as an astrologer / general fortune teller. Despite sharing her reservations, there are two astrology websites I look at every week. Rob Brezsny’s Free Will Astrology every Tuesday, because he’s so positive, and what he says – while delivered in the language of woo – is so helpfully common-sense. And Forever Conscious, for its often-uplifting grrl-power vibe.
Happy Solstice for tomorrow, you hep cats 🌞
