Further to Monday’s post, a few more of Etheldreda Laing’s sublime, dreamlike autochromes of her daughters. The setting, their home of Bury Knowle House, is now Headington Library, its gardens a modernised public park. It has a zip-wire, sandpit, Narnia-inspired pirate boat and sculptures, sensory garden, tennis courts, the highest swings in Oxford, and a cafe. Paradise lost, though not perhaps for children.

Don’t you love when you stumble across a memory and it gives you a glimmer? In this case I was sitting on my heated floor in South Korea in 2005, having just booked for the coming summer’s travel writing and photography conference at Book Passage in California, and it was fully dawning on me at last how I’m not a lawyer but an artist.
