When I was researching Stockport and the air crash there recently I came across a remarkable trove of photos on the town council website, taken from Victorian times until recently. Quite a few were of children and staff from ‘the ragged school’.
Such an evocative name, and I can’t believe I’ve not come across it before now. They were 19th century schools…
